Palestinian Leader Muhammad Jamal al-Natsheh in Critical Condition: Family and Rights Groups Allege Assassination Attempt in Israeli Custody

The wife of prominent Palestinian leader Sheikh Muhammad Jamal al-Natsheh, also known as Abu Hammam, has reported a severe decline in his health following his transfer to the hospital under dire medical conditions. According to her statement, Al-Natsheh is suffering from internal bleeding, kidney failure, and has slipped into a coma — conditions that only developed after his recent imprisonment. Before his arrest, he was in stable health, raising serious concerns about the circumstances of his treatment in Israeli detention.

The Prisoners' Media Office has condemned the Israeli occupation authorities, holding them fully responsible for Al-Natsheh’s life and accusing them of engaging in a deliberate assassination attempt. The office cited brutal torture and inhumane interrogation tactics that led to brain hemorrhaging and critical organ failure, asserting that this constitutes a slow and systematic method of execution under the guise of detention.

Muhammad Al-Natsheh is a well-known figure in the Palestinian political and prisoners’ movement. As a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, he has spent over 23 years behind bars, mostly under administrative detention without formal charges. However, his current imprisonment is described as the most brutal yet, marked by unprecedented levels of physical and psychological abuse.

After his recent arrest, Al-Natsheh was first taken to Ofer Prison and subsequently transferred to Hadassah Hospital due to the severity of his condition. He was later moved to Ramla Prison Hospital, where his health remains critically unstable. Observers note that his state of shock and coma is direct evidence of the extreme torture he endured, especially given his previously good health.

The Prisoners' Media Office is urgently appealing to international human rights organizations — particularly the International Committee of the Red Cross — to take immediate action. Their demands include full transparency on his medical status, legal visitation rights, and access to necessary treatment, stressing that time is of the essence to save his life.

This case has sparked renewed outrage among Palestinian communities and human rights advocates, who view Al-Natsheh's deteriorating condition as part of a broader pattern of systemic abuse against political prisoners. Many are calling for international accountability and urgent diplomatic intervention to prevent further escalation and loss of life in Israeli detention centers.
